These are the only known and certified planchets from the U.S. Mint for the 40% Silver and Clad Eisenhower Dollars that have an experimental rinse and Mint notations from a marker. These were discovered in a hoard of San Francisco Mint Errors. It has been almost 40 years since Ike Dollars were struck and no others have been found.

These unique planchets each have specific notations by the Mint and are included on the NGC inserts. An experimental rinse was applied to the planchet to prevent spots and tarnish. The 40% Silver Ike has "D-NITG" added with a black marker and the Clad Ike has an "H" added with a red marker.

Recently a small hoard of San Francisco major mint errors in proof and mint state were discovered. Included were these unique Eisenhower Dollar planchets with notations by the Mint. This is exciting because it is amazing that new discoveries surface and are authenticated and become available for coin collectors to enjoy owning a part of history.

Ike Dollars struck in 40% Silver were issued from 1971 to 1976. This is one of the most popular U.S. Coins collected. All 40% Silver Ike Dollars were struck, sold and shipped in official U.S. Mint sealed packaging. Ike Dollars struck in Copper-Nickel Clad were produced from 1971 to 1978. NGC authenticated and encapsulated these planchets, and noted on the insert that these were from the 'San Francisco Hoard.' This unique discovery set of experimental dollar planchets is exciting. It is documentation and history of the process and production of Silver Ike Dollar planchets.
