Major Third Printing Shift
Choice XF
SOLD
This is an incredible Major Currency Error on a $500 Bill. This is a major third printing shift that is upward and to the right almost a third of an inch. The third printing is the serial numbers and treasury seal in green ink. Notice the upward shift of the overprint with the left serial number touching the black district seal. In addition, the serial number overlaps the leaves around the portrait of President McKinley. You can see the correct position on the small photo to the right.
Regular $500 bills are scarce and sell in the range of $800-$1000. Obtaining a $500 note with a
major error is almost unheard of. Even Fred Bart, one of the most respected Currency Dealers and noted author, stated that in his twenty years of dealing in currency and currency errors, he has only offered three or four $500 error notes for sale.
This is an original choice XF note. This $500 bill would be the centerpiece of any currency error collection.
This example shows the correct alignment of the serial number.
