Unique Lead Splasher
President Grant Indian Peace Medal
SOLD
This unique die trial splasher struck in lead came from an old time collection in the New York area. This Grant Indian Peace Medal is listed in
U.S. Mint Medals by Robert Julian. These medals were struck by the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia and distributed to Indian Chiefs during President Grant's Administration. He was President during the beginning of the
Indian Wars period.
Dealing with the Indian Treaties was a high priority during his Presidency because the Transcontinental Railroad was in the process of being constructed. The railroads crossed through Indian lands and peace was imperative.
This is a splasher from the die that struck the obverse of the Grant Indian Peace Medal. It weighs approximately 2 ounces and is over 1½ inches wide. It is a uniface lead splasher with the impression of the portrait of President Grant. It is in AU condition with light handling marks.
Grant Indian Peace Medals in Silver sell for up to $5,000 and are widely collected and in demand.

This splasher is very large. It is more than 1½ inches wide.
Die Trials are featured in my
