This is a Byzantine Empire Gold Solidus from 613-641 depicting Heraclitus and Heraclitus Constantine. It was double struck and the first strike was a brockage on the reverse.

I have handled many double struck and off-center ancient and Byzantine gold coins, even a few brockages. A strike over a brockage is very rare and only the second one that I have handled.

Here is another fascinating gold brockage. This 800 year old medieval gold coin was struck with two major mint errors. Although there are off-center gold coins known and gold coins with brockages, this coin combines both error types.
