(1949-1954)-S Franklin Half Dollar
Struck on an Indented Silver Dime Planchet

PCGS MS 64
UNIQUE from the San Francisco Mint
$15,000

slab

This San Francisco minted Franklin half dollar is unique. It was struck on a silver dime planchet and is uniface since the obverse indented the half dollar planchet. It was in an old-time mint error collection with a few other rare off-metal type coins. It is in gem mint state condition, fully struck, with light original toning and incredible luster.

Prior to the discovery of this mint error collection, there were no Franklin half dollar off-metals known from the San Francisco Mint. Illustrated below is the only other San Francisco minted Franklin half dollar off-metal known, which was also from this collection. It was struck off-center on a Lincoln cent planchet and was sold privately for 5-figures in 2026.

It is amazing that this is one of only two known Franklin half dollar off-metals from the San Francisco Mint!
