I purchased this amazing and unique mint error from Henry Hilgard, who was a well known and respected Major Mint Error expert and collector. Having purchased it for a five-figure amount, I immediately went to Fred Weinberg's office to have the PCGS submission form written up after Fred verified it's authenticity and wrote the description for the PCGS tag.
This Seated Half Dollar was multi-struck and broadstruck and is the size of a Morgan Dollar. The reverse has a brockage depicting the obverse design. It struck so many blanks that the reverse brockage expanded to the size of a dollar.
Major mint errors in the Seated Half Dollar series are extremely rare. This is also dated 1873 with arrows which makes it that much more incredible.
