1901 Luxembourg 10 Centimes
Deep Obverse Die Cap
(The Hammer Die was the Reverse Design)

NGC MS 66
UNIQUE

Although described by NGC as a Reverse Die Cap, this 1901 Luxembourg 10 Centimes mint error is actually an Obverse Die Cap because the coin adhered to the hammer die (with the reverse design). It then struck incoming planchets, causing the coin to wrap around the die, forming a die cap as it struck brockages. The striking process involved in creating this unique obverse die cap is quite fascinating.

It is extremely likely that this brockage (sold by Heritage Auctions in 2022) was struck by the obverse die cap in this listing.

This one year type coin portrays the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, Adolphe. Major mint errors from Luxembourg during this time period at the Royal Mint of Belgium are extremely rare. This unique Luxembourg obverse die cap belongs in a collection of major mint errors or coins from Luxembourg.
