John Carlisle was the Secretary of the Treasury in 1893. Barber designed this official U.S. Mint Medal which is 3" inches diameter (76mm). It is listed on page 347 of the Catalogue of Coins, Tokens and Medals in the Numismatic Collection of the Mint of the United States at Philadelphia, PA 1914.

This is a unique and fascinating mint error. It is struck in bronze. The obverse was struck thru a blank or cardboard. It is ironic that this uniface medal was struck to commemorate John Carlisle, who was the Secretary of the Treasury.
