This 1825 Capped Bust Gold Quarter Eagle (large size) was authenticated and certified MS 66 by NGC. It is considered the second finest known.

I have handled this rare coin twice and the story is quite fascinating. In 1986, I purchased this rare gold coin from Greg Hollaway. It was in a PCGS MS 64 holder and obviously very undergraded. I submitted it to NGC and it was certified MS 66. In 1989, I consigned it to David Akers' auction where it realized $260,000. It subsequently traded hands several times including several appearances in Stacks Auctions. I purchased it again and consigned it to Heritage Auctions in 2011 and it realized $115,000.

This 1825 Capped Bust Gold Quarter Eagle (large size) is extremely rare in gem condition and, back in the day, this was one of the highlights of my inventory.
