1971-D 5C Obverse Die Cap
Struck on 10C Planchet

slab slab

This is a unique off-metal obverse die cap. It's a Jefferson Nickel struck on a dime blank and became an obverse die cap. A regular off-metal 5 cent on a dime blank is much smaller in diameter. This off-metal remained in the collar, and became an obverse die cap by striking the obverse of dime blanks. It's full size and cupped like a saucer since it wrapped itself around the obverse die.

There are only a few off-metal obverse die caps on any denomination. Unique and spectacular!
