This is the only known 1943 Steel Cent that was struck on an Elliptical planchet. This unique major mint error is pedigreed to the Fred Weinberg collection of error coins, and was included in his collection for 25 years. It was just authenticated and certified by PCGS and to date, stands alone as a unique Elliptical Steel Cent. Type coins that were struck on Elliptical planchets are unique or extremely rare. Fred Weinberg recently sold a Buffalo Nickel struck on an Elliptical planchet for 10k. This is the first time that this Steel Cent on an elliptical planchet is being offered for sale. It weighs 2.3 grams as is practically 'as struck' with significant original luster and superb eye appeal.
