Major mint errors in the 2¢ series are very rare. This super deep obverse die cap came from a major mint error collection that was assembled over 30 years ago. Along with it were two obverse brockages. This 3 piece set is in original condition and the toning matches.

It is possible that these two brockages were struck from this specific obverse die cap. Since this obverse die cap struck many coins, it continues to become higher as it wrapped around the obverse die. During this process of expansion, the reverse becomes more distorted as it strikes blank planchets. Spectacular.
