Franklin Half Dollar
Struck on a 1948 Lincoln Cent
NGC MS 64 BN

There are four known Franklin Half Dollar double denominations. Two of them were struck on struck quarters and two were struck over struck cents.

This is the earliest known Franklin Half Dollar off-metal. It is dated to 1948 since it is on a previously struck 1948 Wheat Ear Lincoln cent. It is in gem mint state condition and is well centered with attractive toning. It shows considerable detail of Lincoln's portrait and the date on the obverse and the wheat ears on the reverse. This is a spectacular major mint error and would be the centerpiece of any collection.
